The THCA represents a broad spectrum of long-term care providers and professionals offering long-term, rehabilitative and specialized healthcare services.
Jeff Brown , CTRS, Activity Director at Gracy Woods II Nursing Center in Austin , received an award for THCA Activity Professional of the Year due to his outstanding dedication and leadership. Brown received his Bachelor of Science degree at Old Dominion University in Norfolk , Virginia . He is trained in various therapeutic recreation service areas, including psychiatric and spinal injury. Since April of 2003, he has been working with the residents at Gracy Woods II.
Brown prides himself in trying to fill each resident's life with as much joy as possible. In all his interactions with residents he tries to solicit a smile, a giggle, or at best, a belly laugh. "If I can get these responses from the activities that I provide, then I have accomplished my goal," Brown said.
THCA also awarded Judy Hughes, a dedicated volunteer at Gracy Woods II, the honor of Volunteer of the Year. Hughes began assisting and lending her time at Gracy Woods II when her mother was a resident. She has been volunteering for about five years. Even though her mother has passed away, Hughes continues to volunteer and joins the residents when they go on outings. |
